The Great American Bumper Sticker

View Trailer:

The Great American Bumper Sticker investigates the bumper sticker as a communication device as well as a familiar icon of popular culture in the USA. Since its first creation by a silk screener in 1931 in Kansas City, Americans have used bumper stickers to voice a variety of opinions. Taking the act of placing a bumper sticker on one’s vehicle as a sign of desire for communication, this documentary explores the function of the bumper sticker as a communication device, trying to find answers to such questions as: Why is the bumper sticker the channel of communication of choice? How effectively can a bumper sticker communicate a message? How many words can one fit on a bumper sticker? Who is the audience for messages disseminated via bumper stickers? How does a bumper sticker function as a token of pride?
